A couple of big male rainbow trout taken on flies. It has been a fantastic weekend so far.
Friday Fish Fest
This horned grebe swam to me and let me pick it up. It was obvious that it was having a difficult time, probably due to stress from the cold weather/late spring. I tried keeping it warm wrapped in a towel and placed in my car, but sadly it ended up dying. My first guess would be from exhaustion. All of the local lakes are still frozen in Northern Minnesota, so all waterfowl type birds have been taking refuge in and near Lake Superior. And the conditions have been harsh.
The rainbows have been eating flies readily.
Caddis Pupas!
A few awesome looking caddis patterns tied by none other than Davie McPhail.
