Ice was had this weekend on the big lake. It was a slow start but great to be ice fishing on Lake Superior so early in the season. I was able to find fishable ice on the Minnesota side, as well as Wisconsin. We started out in Two Harbors and setup in Agate Bay. Collette hooked into a salmon right away, but we had nothing the rest of the day.
The next day I jumped in the car with my friend Joel and his wife Rachael and rode to Bayfield, Wisconsin. A few steps out on the ice and we were already in 60 feet of water. We mostly caught whitefish (and one herring). Rachael iced a nice lake trout almost right away.
The following day I took my dad out on some ice off the Minnesota shoreline. I only saw one large rainbow trout that took a couple of runs at my jig before turning it down and cruising on elsewhere. The ice here was around 6 inches, but it is the type of ice that might be gone tomorrow.
