Chile in Northern Minnesota…Up The Gunflint Trail

I had an amazing weekend fishing trout through the ice in Northern Minnesota near the Canadian border. The winter trout season opened Saturday. Fishing started off slow, but as we explored several different lakes, we located fish and found our new favorite lake, and made friends along the way.

We quickly made friends with our bartender, Karina, at the lodge where we stayed. She has been in Minnesota for only a month. Coming from Chile, she had no idea what ice fishing was, and that people could actually cut holes in the ice and catch fish through them. So we had the crazy idea to take her out ice fishing with us, and as luck would have it…

Pictured here is Karina with her 33″ Lake Trout and Cory holding the fish. More photos and underwater video footage to come!
